About Us
An East Texas Pool Company, Built to Last
We're locally owned and operated, based in Lovelady, and we serve homeowners throughout Houston County and the five neighboring East Texas counties.
Our Story
Sam Houston Pools and Outdoors started with something I noticed after moving to East Texas — there was a real void in pool service quality out here. It seemed like homeowners had gotten used to being satisfied if the pool guy just showed up at all. Knowledge, craftsmanship, and the kind of work that holds up over decades had become the exception, not the standard. East Texas homeowners deserve better than that, and they shouldn't have to drive an hour into the Houston metro to find a builder who'll show up, stand behind the work, and still be answering the phone five years from now.
My family moved to Lovelady from Houston in October 2024, looking for a little bit of country living and a place that shared our values to raise our kids in. East Texas wasn't new to me, though. I fell in love with this part of the state during my time at Sam Houston State, and coming back as a husband and dad felt like coming home. I grew up in the pool business and still work with my family's pool company in Houston, so I get to bring everything I've learned in that market — the equipment knowledge, the construction standards, the service discipline — to a community I'm now part of.
We built Sam Houston Pools and Outdoors around two things most pool companies split apart: construction and ongoing care. The big builders drop pools and disappear. The small service-only shops don't know how the pool was built or what equipment is in it. We do both, on purpose, because that's how you end up with a pool that's still running smoothly 15 years from now.
Today we design and build new in-ground gunite pools, renovate older ones, build outdoor living spaces, install and repair pool equipment, and run a chemical delivery and at-home water testing service that has become a real lifeline for homeowners outside the metro.
What Drives Us
Every pool company says they care about quality. The difference shows in how a company actually operates day to day. These are the four principles we run on.
Local
We live in the towns we serve. The pools we build are pools we'll drive past every week. That changes how we work — there's no leaving a half-finished problem and disappearing into Houston traffic.
Full-Service
Design, build, renovate, repair, and maintain — all under one roof. You don't manage four contractors. You don't get bounced between companies when something goes wrong. We do the work.
Honest
Sometimes the answer is 'this isn't worth fixing.' Sometimes it's 'you don't need what they quoted you.' We'd rather lose a sale than push you into work that doesn't make sense.
Long-Term
We're here for the next 20 years, not the next 20 weeks. That's why we lean on integrated service — the same team that built your pool keeps it running, season after season.
What Makes Us Different
Most pool companies in our region either build pools or service them. We do both, and we've set up the company so the two sides actually talk to each other.
We're a service company that also builds pools
Construction-first companies treat service as an afterthought. Service-first companies don't have the engineering chops to build new. We approach every new build knowing we'll be the ones maintaining it for the next 15 years — that changes the decisions we make during construction.
We bring the pool store to your door
At-home water testing and chemical delivery is a real differentiator out here. Customers tell us it changed how they think about pool ownership — no more weekend trips to the city, no more guesswork.
We know East Texas
Soil, climate, freeze cycles, debris from pines and oaks, well water vs. county water — these matter, and they're different here than they are 90 miles south. We design and service pools for the conditions on the ground in East Texas, not generic Houston specs.
Where We Work
We're based in Lovelady, and we serve homeowners across six East Texas counties: Houston, Trinity, Anderson, Leon, Walker, and Madison. From the Piney Woods to the post oak belt, we cover roughly a 60-mile radius around our shop — and we know the back roads, the soil, and the towns inside that area.
